2018 Trip To Krakow

Krakow, located on the river Vistula, is the second largest city in Poland and also an old capital. We visited briefly in the late spring of 2018. We traveled there by bus from Vienna and left by train. We arrived in Vienna in the middle of the day. It was a little challenging to find connections that would get us into Krakow in decent time. We managed to find a bus that got us there just before midnight.

We enjoyed both train and bus journeys through Czech Republic and Poland. The landscape was interesting or at least not boring, and the people were friendly. After this trip, we noticed a difference in experience between bus and train journeys. You see more of the backyards from the train and main streets and highways from the bus. We saw many beautiful gardens from the trains very closely. Nowadays, long distance busses drive mostly on highways and you don’t get to see the residential areas much.

We passed by 2 or 3 Polish cities between the Czech boder to Krakow. They appeared bustling and modern.

We found Krakow to be a lively city with active and friendly people. Locals seemed to enjoy eating out. In some parts of Europe, bakeries often outnumber restaurants. At least in the parts of Krakow we visited, we saw more restaurants than bakeries. There was no shortage of street food either. More than once, we came across a long queue of people happily lining up for street food.
